Aeonium lancerottense

Aeonium lancerottense

Aeonium lancerottense is a largely branched evergreen bush as much as 60 cm (2 feet) tall. Several succulent, soft, green, smooth rosettes with a size of as much as 6 inches (15 cm) are held largely on thick spins to create a circled around hedge with a size as much as 3 feet (90 centimeters). The flower cones on the base depend on 1 foot (30 cm) in dimension and also consist of numerous stellar, rose blossoms. In the summertime they appear and also rise to 2 feet (60 cm) above the fallen leaves on strong stalks.

Characteristics

Aeonium Lancerottense is a lesser-known but equally captivating member of the Aeonium family, prized for its elegant growth habit and lush foliage.

  • Appearance: This variety forms rosettes of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves. The rosettes are typically not as tightly packed as in some other Aeonium species, giving the plant a more open and airy appearance.
  • Color: The leaves are a rich green, sometimes with lighter green or yellowish tones in the center of the rosette. The leaf edges may turn slightly reddish when stressed, typically due to sunlight or temperature changes.
  • Size: The rosettes usually grow to about 4-6 inches in diameter. The plant has a branching habit, which can lead to a bushy appearance as it matures.
  • Flowers: Aeonium Lancerottense blooms with yellow, star-shaped flowers on tall, slender stalks. The flowering typically occurs in the late winter to early spring.

Cultivation and Propagation

Aeonium Lancerottense requires basic care similar to other Aeoniums but can be more forgiving in various growing conditions.

  • Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight, which may enhance the color of the leaves.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-draining soil, preferably a cactus or succulent mix to ensure adequate drainage.
  • Watering: Water when the soil is dry to the touch, and be cautious of over-watering, especially in colder months.
  • Temperature: Enjoys a mild climate and should be protected from frost. In colder regions, it’s advisable to grow it in a container that can be moved indoors during winter.
  • Propagation: Can be propagated through stem cuttings or offsets. Allow the cuttings or offsets to dry and callous for a few days before planting in well-draining soil.

Aeonium Lancerottense is an excellent choice for succulent gardens or as a potted plant, adding a touch of elegance with its green, lush rosettes.
